Onnaing is a French commune, situated in the Nord department, in the Hauts-de-France region. A member of the Valenciennes Métropole agglomeration community, Onnaing also forms part of the urban unit of Valenciennes, which is the third largest in the Nord department.
A little history
The Abbaye des Dames de Beaumont declared ownership of assets in the village in 1602. It is known that Onnaing experienced ancient occupation dating back to Prehistory, as evidenced by the numerous tools discovered during excavations, and then Gallo-Roman occupation, with the Toyota site having been explored shortly before the construction of the factory. The Venot family were industrialists who worked in the commune, and certain members became presidents of the Lyre Ouvrière (the municipal wind band). The fosse Cuvinot was founded by the Compagnie des mines d'Anzin, using the ground-freezing method, in July 1893.
