A little history
Jean de Noyelles sous Lens, Lancelot de Noyelles sous Lens and Pierre de Noyelles sous Lens fought and were killed at the Battle of Azincourt in 1415. In March 1614, by letters issued in Brussels, the land and seigneury of Noyelles, held from the château de Lens, was erected into a comté in favour of Hugues de Noyelles, seigneur of the place and henceforth comte, de Stade, Lo (Belgium), Roosebeke, Calonne-Ricouart, gentilhomme de la bouche (panetier) of the archdukes Albert d'Autriche and Isabelle-Claire-Eugénie d'Autriche. The commune was awarded the Croix de Guerre 1914-1918 by decree of 25 September 1920, a distinction also awarded to 276 other communes in Pas-de-Calais.
