Nieppe [njɛp] (Niepkerke in Flemish) is a French commune situated in the département du Nord, in the Hauts-de-France region. Culturally, the village is situated in the south of the Westhoek within the Plaine de la Lys.
A little history
From a religious point of view, the commune was situated in the diocese of Thérouanne and then in the diocese of Ypres, deanery of Bailleul. The prieuré de Nieppe was founded in 1084 according to the charter signed at that time with the bishop, Gérard de Thérouanne. Even though the prieuré had some land, it was not until 1245 that Marguerite de Constantinople donated the seigneurie de Nieppe to the prieuré. The monks retained this benefit until 1570. The two columns standing, to this day, beside the église Saint-Martin and the monument aux morts also date from this period.
