A little history
The founding of the town came about through the great land clearance, agricultural progress and the growth in population of the Nord region. In 1609, an act authorised the inhabitants to manufacture bourgeterie goods (the making of woollen cloth in the Lillois dialect). The village became French in 1668, with the traité d'Aix-la-Chapelle. In Neuville-en-Ferrain, la Hamayde was the seat of a lordship before the French Revolution.
