Morée covers 25.8 km², lies between 86 and 152 m above sea level and had 1,077 inhabitants in the 2023 census.
Morée is a French commune situated in the département of Loir-et-Cher in the région of Centre-Val de Loire, formerly the chief town of a Canton, it now belongs to the canton du Perche. Its inhabitants are known as the Moréens. Located in the north of the département, the commune forms part of the small agricultural region known as la Beauce, a vast expanse of cereal, oilseed (colza) and protein crop (pois, féverolle, lupin) farming, with sugar beet and potatoes also grown.
A little history
The town of Morée is situated some distance to the north-east of Vendôme. The existence of Morée is known from as early as the eleventh century, a period during which a priory, known as the prieuré de Franca Villa, was established through donations from the comtes de Blois to the abbaye de Marmoutier. Nothing is known of the age of this priory or of its transformation into a secular lordship. However, the town quickly came to possess two échevins and a capitaine-gouverneur.
