Romorantin-Lanthenay is a French commune, situated in the département of Loir-et-Cher in the région of Centre-Val de Loire. This town is also the capital of the natural région of the Sologne.
A little history
Although the settlement of the Sologne is ancient, and although the Romans had built a camp there, the first mention of Romorantin dates back to 1196, when the comté of Blois granted a charter of freedoms to the inhabitants. A castle gradually took shape and came under assault from the English in 1356. During the day of 30 August, 60 French lances and a large number of men-at-arms from Amaury de Craon and Boucicaut laid an ambush for a small enemy convoy, which held out until the arrival of the main English forces, who captured 120 Frenchmen, with the other half and more making their escape towards the town.
