It was formed by the merger of two communes, Montrichard and Bourré, which became "communes déléguées". Its administrative centre is Montrichard.
A little history
The new commune of Montrichard Val de Cher is the merger of the now delegated communes of Montrichard, a former fiefdom of the maison d'Amboise, long a vassal of the comte d'Anjou, attached to Loir-et-Cher in 1790, and Bourré, famous for its former tuffeau quarries, today transformed into troglodyte dwellings. During the Second World War, both communes were occupied by Nazi Germany, and were situated on the border with the so-called "free" zone, with the Cher forming part of the ligne de démarcation.
