A little history
Montoire is a very ancient town, known by the name of Aureum Mons in medieval Latin. The église Saint-Gilles bore Romanesque frescoes on its vault, which still bear witness to its former religious significance through the drawings made of them by Monsieur Launay. The house of Montoire secured its warlike renown. The town and its surrounding countryside, on the borders of the Blaisois and the Perche, are incorporated into the comté de Vendôme.
