Moisdon-la-Rivière [mwadɔ̃ la ʁivjɛʁ] is a commune in the West of France, situated in the département of Loire-Atlantique, in the région Pays de la Loire.
A little history
Moisdon-la-Rivière is the former fief of the lords of Moisdon or Maisdon, in Latin « meldono », descended from the lords of Rougé in the Middle Ages. The family du Hamel was lord of la Bothelière, du Pavillon and du Val, parish of Moisdon. In 1939, the prefect of Loire-Inférieure arranged for reception camps for Spanish refugees from the republican zone to be established at Moisdon-la-Rivière and Juigné-des-Moutiers. In order to free up the holiday camps (Pornichet, Le Pouliguen) where the refugees were staying in the spring, the camp at Moisdon (Camp de la Forge) opened on 31 May, and that at Juigné in early June.
