A little history
At the end of the 7th century, Mauront, duc de Douai, founded a monastery in a place called Bruël, near the Lys. He handed over its direction to Aimé de Sion known as Saint-Amé, a bishop exiled on the orders of King Thierry III. Aimé de Sion died there in 690. Saint-Maurand died in 701 or 702 at the abbaye de Marchiennes, founded by his mother Rictrude de Marchiennes (Sainte-Rictrude).
