Merlimont is a French commune situated in the département of Pas-de-Calais in the Hauts-de-France region. It is a member of the communauté d'agglomération des Deux Baies en Montreuillois and forms part of the urban unit, the aire d'attraction des villes, the employment zone and the living area of Berck. The commune of Merlimont (official name since 1801) is situated in the south-west of the département of Pas-de-Calais, 5 km as the crow flies to the north of the commune of Berck.
A little history
Merlimont was situated on the dune de Guigneux and formed, together with Berck, Épy and Verton, an enclave of Artois within the county of Ponthieu, which enjoyed privileges and exemptions from the county. The domain of Merlimont came under the county of Ponthieu and the châtellenie de Beaurain. The counts of Saint-Pol were its owners at the end of the 12th century. Jeanne de Fiennes received it as a dower upon her marriage to Jean de Chatillon (1343) and their daughter, Mahaut de Châtillon, brought Merlimont into the house of Luxembourg.
