Méricourt is a French commune situated in the département of Pas-de-Calais in the région of Hauts-de-France. Its inhabitants are called the Méricourtois. The commune is a member of the communauté d'agglomération of Lens-Liévin.
A little history
Before the French Revolution, Méricourt was the seat of at least two lordships. In 1585, one Antoine de Loueuse is referred to as seigneur de Cronevelt and de Méricourt in part. Antoine de Loueuse, écuyer, seigneur de Cronevelt and de Méricourt in part, was authorised on 19 February 1585 to have registered the letters of knighthood granted at Vienne on 12 April 1577 by the emperor Maximilien II to his brother Jacques de Loueuse, seigneur of the said place. On 8 March 1585, Antoine de Loueuse was authorised to have registered the letters of knighthood granted on 24 February 1536 by the emperor Charles V (Charles Quint) to Jean de Baiart, seigneur de Gautaul, father of Claire de Baiart, his wife.
