Mauges-sur-Loire is a new French commune situated in the département of Maine-et-Loire, in the Pays de la Loire region. It lies to the north-east of the Mauges, on the banks of the Loire. It was formed on 15 December 2015 by the merger of the former communes of Beausse, Botz-en-Mauges, Bourgneuf-en-Mauges, La Chapelle-Saint-Florent, Le Marillais, Le Mesnil-en-Vallée, Montjean-sur-Loire, La Pommeraye, Saint-Florent-le-Vieil, Saint-Laurent-de-la-Plaine and Saint-Laurent-du-Mottay.
A little history
The new commune of Mauges-sur-Loire was created by prefectoral order on 5 October 2015 through the merger on 15 December of that same year of the eleven communes of the former communauté de communes du canton de Saint-Florent-le-Vieil, namely Beausse, Botz-en-Mauges, Bourgneuf-en-Mauges, La Chapelle-Saint-Florent, Le Marillais, Le Mesnil-en-Vallée, Montjean-sur-Loire, La Pommeraye, Saint-Florent-le-Vieil, Saint-Laurent-de-la-Plaine and Saint-Laurent-du-Mottay, which became délégué communes. The chef-lieu was established at La Pommeraye. For the history prior to 2015, one should refer to the articles devoted to the former merged communes.
