Magalas (pronounced [maɡalas], in Occitan Magalaç) is a French commune situated in the north-west of the département of Hérault, in the Occitanie region. Exposed to a Mediterranean climate, it is drained by the Libron, the Lène, the ruisseau de Badeaussou, the ruisseau de Saint-Pierre and by various other small watercourses. Magalas is a rural commune with 3,582 inhabitants in 2023, having experienced a sharp rise in population since 1968.
A little history
During the French Revolution, the citizens of the commune gathered within the revolutionary society, named the société des jacobins, then after the fall of the monarchy the société populaire et montagnarde and finally the société populaire régénérée des sans-culottes. It was founded in July 1791 and attended by 69 members in year III.
