Maël-Carhaix [mɛl kaʁɛ] is a French commune situated in the département des Côtes-d'Armor, in the région of Bretagne. Its inhabitants are known as the Maël-Carhaisiens and the Maël-Carhaisiennes.
A little history
The Roman road from Vorgium (Carhaix) to Corseul passes 500 metres to the north of the village of Maël-Carhaix. A Roman leugary column once erected at the side of this road to indicate the distance from the town of Vorgium (namely 6 Gaulish leagues) was described in 1874 by Robert Mowat. It was found less than 3 km from its current location. Exposed to the elements since it was re-erected in the open air, its inscription is today almost illegible. It has nonetheless been dated to the turn of the 2nd and 3rd centuries.
