Lure, the town
Lure covers 24.3 km², lies between 284 and 353 m above sea level and had 7,877 inhabitants in the 2023 census.
Lure (pronounced [lyʁ]), also known as the cité du sapeur, is a French commune located in the département of Haute-Saône, in Franche-Comté, in the administrative région of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Its inhabitants are called the Lurons. It is the seat of the communauté de communes du pays de Lure.
A little history
To this day, no archaeological discovery dating back to prehistory has been made on the territory of the commune itself, although the presence of prehistoric humans is attested in Haute-Saône, notably at Magny-Vernois, a village close to Lure. Worked flints were unearthed in the 1980s by a resident of that village who was digging his kitchen garden. Following this discovery, surveys were carried out. Traces of human activity from the Magdalenian period were uncovered on a terrace on the left bank of the Reigne, as well as at the lieu-dit du Razou.
