Rioz [ʁjo] is a French commune situated in the département of Haute-Saône, the cultural and historical region of Franche-Comté and the administrative region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.
A little history
The Roman road from Besançon to Plombières-les-Bains passed through Rioz. The village suffered considerable damage during the wars of the 17th century under Louis XIV. The faïencerie de Rioz was highly regarded across Europe in the 19th century and created more than 50 jobs (it closed in 1912). It is the origin of the name of the Lac de la Faiencerie à Rioz. In 1807, Rioz absorbed the communes of Anthon and Dournon and, in 1973, incorporated Les Fontenis, which became an associated commune.
