Jussey covers 33.6 km², lies between 212 and 363 m above sea level and had 1,558 inhabitants in the 2023 census.
Jussey is a French commune situated in the département of Haute-Saône, the cultural and historical region of Franche-Comté and the administrative region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. It encompasses the former commune of Noroy-lès-Jussey. Its inhabitants are known as the jusséens and jusséennes.
A little history
Jussey was founded in the years 300 AD between two hills that reach 260 metres at their highest point, the mont Simon and the colline des Capucins. Previously situated at the top of the hills and long fortified, the town suffered from numerous conflicts. In the 12th century, the counts of Bourgogne owned the château, which led the settlement to experience the vicissitudes linked to their politics. In the 13th century, the Bénédictins had built the prieuré de Saint-Thiébaut which, destroyed in turn in 1595, was relocated to the upper town under the more immediate protection of the château.
