Luxeuil-les-Bains is a French commune situated in the département of Haute-Saône, in Franche-Comté, in the administrative region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. The principal commune of the communauté de communes du Pays de Luxeuil, it is the fourth most populous commune in the département after Vesoul, Héricourt and Lure. Renowned for its culinary specialities, its lace and principally its thermal baths, it is one of the gateway towns of the parc naturel régional des Ballons des Vosges.
A little history
The site of Luxeuil-les-Bains was known well before the Roman conquest of Gaul for its thermal springs and most likely taking its name from the Celtic god Luxovios or Lussoius, the town prospered during the Gallo-Roman period under the name of Luxovium. Developed at that time around its forum, probably close to the thermal baths, in the northern part of the present-day town, it sits at the crossroads of seven Roman roads. Excavations carried out in the 20th century brought to light several potters' kilns, which were in use in the 2nd century.
