Lumbres is a French commune located in the Pas-de-Calais department in the Hauts-de-France region. Its inhabitants are called the Lumbrois. The commune is the seat of the communauté de communes du Pays de Lumbres.
A little history
The valley saw prehistoric occupation, including on the « montagne de Lumbres », at least as far back as the Neolithic period. Docteur Pontier and chanoine Collet (abbaye de Wisques) were among the first to study scientifically the local prehistoric remains (Arques, Lumbres, Elnes and Wavrans). Among the hamlets of Lumbres is that of Samettes, the seat of a lordship before the French Revolution. In the 17th century, Lumbres was a county belonging to Maximilien de Fiennes, comte de Lumbres, head of the maison de Fiennes.
