Louvroil [luvʁwal] is a French commune located in the département of Nord (59), in the region of Hauts-de-France.
A little history
From 1158 and for more than six centuries, the village was attached to the Abbaye de Hautmont. During the French Revolution, in 1789, the peasants of Louvroil demanded the abolition of privileges and the end of the guardianship of Hautmont. In the 19th century, the industrial revolution transformed the small agricultural village into a small industrial town. From 812 inhabitants in 1845, Louvroil grew to 2,185 inhabitants in 1881. At the beginning of the 20th century, with metallurgy, the canalisation of the Sambre, the arrival of the railway and the development of steelmaking activities, the town experienced uninterrupted growth, rising successively to 4,750 inhabitants in 1906 and to 5,251 in 1914.
