Loudéac, the town
Loudéac covers 80.2 km², lies between 73 and 245 m above sea level and had 9,987 inhabitants in the 2023 census.
Loudéac is a French commune situated in the département des Côtes-d'Armor, in the region of Bretagne.
A little history
Between 1959 and 1967, four deposits of Armorican socketed axes dating from the final Bronze Age were discovered on the territory of the commune at the lieu-dits La Bellière (80 axes), Saint-Bugan (around 800 axes), at Clos-Reland (13 axes) and at Limpiquel (42 axes). Once a simple hunting meeting place in the forest, it was only around the 11th century that the founding of Loudéac was truly recognised. A town renowned for its fairs and markets in the Middle Ages, it was for a long time in the hands of the vicomtes de Rohan.
