Longué-Jumelles covers 96.2 km², lies between 20 and 78 m above sea level and had 6,564 inhabitants in the 2023 census.
Longué-Jumelles is a French commune situated in the département of Maine-et-Loire, in the région of Pays de la Loire. The commune was created on 1 January 1973 from the merger of the two former neighbouring communes of Longué and Jumelles, which became associated communes. Straddling the Val de Loire and the Baugeois, it was until 2015 the largest commune in Maine-et-Loire by surface area.
A little history
A prehistoric presence is attested on the territory of the commune of Longué. Several ditches were found there, as well as objects made of fired clay. Twelve stone axes were also found. In addition to the remains of Roman roads, a Gaulish medal and Gallo-Roman coins were likewise discovered there.
