Loireauxence [lwaʁoksɑ̃s] is, since 1 January 2016, a new French commune born from the merger of the communes of Belligné, La Chapelle-Saint-Sauveur, La Rouxière and Varades in the département of Loire-Atlantique, in the Pays de la Loire region. This commune is part of historic Brittany, situated in the pays d'Ancenis, which is itself part of the Pays Nantais, one of the traditional pays of Brittany.
A little history
The commune of Loireauxence was born on 1 January 2016, from the coming together of Belligné, La Chapelle-Saint-Sauveur, La Rouxière and Varades, under the regime of the commune nouvelle. These communes became, on that date, délégué communes of the new authority, in accordance with the wishes of the respective municipal councils, expressed on 21 and 30 November 2015 (Montrelais, which had been associated with this process, had not wished to continue with it following a vote of the municipal council on 22 October). The decision was confirmed by a prefectoral order of 18 December 2015.
