A little history
Archaeological digs on the butte de Riaumont, the highest point in the town, have uncovered traces from the Neolithic and Gallo-Roman periods, as well as 752 tombs which attest that Liévin was a Merovingian necropolis. Before the French Revolution, Liévin was the seat of several seigneuries. Allard-François de Blocquel, chevalier, was in the 17th century seigneur de Wismes, Lambry, Angre (Angre? Angres?), Liévin.
