A little history
The territory of the commune has been inhabited since at least the Neolithic period, as attested by the two menhirs in the commune, the menhir de Haute-Lande and the menhir des Faux. The territory was originally inhabited by the Gaulish people of the Ambilatres, who were part of the confederation of Pictonian peoples. In the 9th century, it formed part of the comté d'Herbauges, established for the military defence of Bas-Poitou against Viking raids, with Rezé as its capital. In 851, the treaty of Angers attached the Pays de Retz to the Marches communes Bretagne-Poitou.
