Lempdes is a French commune situated in the Puy-de-Dôme department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, on the eastern outskirts of Clermont-Ferrand. It forms part of the aire d'attraction of Clermont-Ferrand.
A little history
A church was established in the 12th century, and the fortifications, of which a circular layout currently survives, appeared in the 14th century. Lempdes was an agricultural town between the 16th and 19th centuries. Viticulture was very active at the end of the 19th century, and the population produced and sold cereals, hemp, walnuts and wine destined for Paris. An airstrip was built in 1916 by Michelin, in hard surface, due to the dampness of the ground.
