A little history

The parish of Legé is mentioned under the name of Legiaco in 1119 in a document relating to the abbaye de Tournus, founded under the patronage of Saint Philibert in 875 thanks to the support of Charles le Chauve, king of France. Two Poitevin abbeys founded priories on the territory of Legé at the end of the 12th century or the beginning of the 13th century. The Benedictine abbaye de Saint-Jean-d'Orbestier (founded in 1107 by Guillaume, comte du Poitou and duc d'Aquitaine), at Château-d'Olonne, founded the prieuré de La Péranche under the patronage of Saint Madeleine. The Augustinian abbaye de Nieul-sur-Autize, near Fontenay-le-Comte, founded the prieuré de Saint-Laurent-de-Fougère.
