Leforest [ləfɔʁɛ] is a French commune situated in the département of Pas-de-Calais in the region of Hauts-de-France. Its inhabitants are called the Leforestois. The commune is a member of the communauté d'agglomération Hénin-Carvin.
A little history
Leforest was originally a small market town where a few forest clearers lived. Leforest was, before the French Revolution, the seat of at least one seigneury long held by the family de La Tramerie. In August 1667, by letters issued from the camp before Lille, the land of Le Forest was erected into a marquisate. This land had middle and low justice (seigneurial justice) and enjoyed a considerable income, having several fiefs and sub-fiefs.
