Le Soler [lə sɔle] is a French commune situated in the north-east of the département of Pyrénées-Orientales, in the Occitanie region. From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune is in the Roussillon, a former province of the kingdom of France, which existed from 1659 until 1790 and which covered the three vigueries of Roussillon, Conflent and Cerdagne. Exposed to a Mediterranean climate, it is drained by the Têt, the Basse, the ruisseau du Soler, Agouille d'en Biagnes, the ruisseau de Sainte-Eugénie and by another watercourse.
A little history
Several ancient villas and sites have been discovered on the territory of Le Soler, the Soler ferréol, Pallagianum, Taurinianum, Campillano, palatio Monniano, mansio Eugeniae, la Chasa Sancti Petri and the parrochia Sancti Mauricii de Solerio inferiori, Campellanes and Monyas. These sites disappeared from the 10th century onwards. The communal territory of Le Soler retains traces of Roman land division. Several paths, some still passable, surfaced or maintained, and incorporated as streets, follow its layout.
