Le Quesnoy [lə kenwa] is a French commune, situated in the département of Nord and the région of Hauts-de-France. It has kept its characteristic ramparts intact, which show the evolution of the art of defence from the 17th century (the so-called Spanish period) to the early 20th century, passing through Vauban who modified their appearance.
A little history
Without yet being a small town in the time of Julius Caesar, the region was occupied by the Nerviens. Near the Porte Fauroeulx of the town, in 1933, Roman pottery was discovered. Under the Merovingians and the Carolingians, no trace of any significant settlement is found in the Quercitaine region.
