Le Pouliguen (pronounced [lə.pu.li.gɛ̃]) is a commune in the West of France, situated in the département of Loire-Atlantique, in the Pays de la Loire region. It forms part of the pays de Guérande, one of the traditional pays of Brittany. Le Pouliguen is a seaside resort on the Côte d'Amour, renowned for the fishing and pleasure harbour it shares with the neighbouring resort of La Baule.
A little history
The pointe de Penchâteau was the site of significant occupation during the protohistoric period, and traces of four lines of ramparts have been found there, which could be dated fairly precisely to around 450 BC. The fortifications extend over nearly seven hectares, on the border between the Namnète and Vénète territories. The camp was listed as a historic monument in 1979, then received a supplementary listing in 1996 for the protection of remains situated on other parcels of land and discovered after 1979.
