Le Mené [lə məne] is a new French commune in the pays du Mené, formed on 1 January 2016 from the member communes of the Communauté de communes du Mené (Collinée, Le Gouray, Langourla, Plessala, Saint-Gilles-du-Mené, Saint-Gouéno, Saint-Jacut-du-Mené) located in the département des Côtes-d'Armor in the region of Bretagne.
A little history
Many young mothers from the Mené region who had just given birth would leave their families, including their own newborns, for several months, travelling to the city, often to Paris, to take up positions as wet nurses in bourgeois households. The rector of Hénon wondered whether the prolonged absence of the mother from the family did not constitute a harm that the wages received could not compensate for. Another witness in 1912 spoke of the scourge of wet nurses, with the family being disrupted by the mother's absence and their own infant, poorly fed, frequently dying.
