A little history
The territory has been inhabited since prehistoric times, as numerous knapped stone tools have been found there (fist axes and arrowheads). A menhir (situated in the commune of Trémentines, but on the boundary with Le May) confirms this certainty. The remains of a Roman road (the route de la Séguinière) and the name "Ulmetum" attest to a Roman presence in the early centuries of the Christian era. During the barbarian invasions of the 5th century, Le May was Christianised and came under the authority of Poitiers.
