The history of Loroux-Bottereau is marked by Pierre Landais 1430-1485, who governed the Duchy of Bretagne on behalf of Duke François II and developed maritime trade. He fortified the town, reinforced its château, as Le Loroux-Bottereau lay on the defensive line of the Marches de Bretagne. During the French Revolution, the population of Le Loroux-Bottereau sided predominantly with the royalist and Catholic Vendéens. The men of the Le Loroux-Bottereau area formed a small army named les Gars du Loroux, which was part of the Grande Armée Catholique et Royale.
