A little history

Situated in the Massif central, a Huguenot town since the Reformation of the 16th century, the commune and its surrounding area have been since the beginning of the 20th century a resort for "tourisme de pauvres pour les pauvres". Protestant charitable organisations, notably the Œuvre des enfants à la montagne of pastor Louis Comte, sent poor children from Lyon and Saint-Étienne to breathe fresh air on farms where the local peasants took them in. Then in the 1930s the town welcomed Spanish, German and Austrian refugees who were anti-Nazi and foreign Jews, thanks to certain individuals such as Mme de Félice, pastor André Trocmé and mayor Charles Guillon.
