Laventie is a French commune situated in the département of Pas-de-Calais in the Hauts-de-France region, historically located in French Flanders. Its inhabitants are called the Laventinois. The commune is a member of the communauté de communes Flandre Lys.
A little history
Laventie formed part of a region originally belonging to the 17 provinces of the Spanish Netherlands, known as the Pays de l'Alleu, grouping four communes, Fleurbaix, Laventie, Sailly (Sailly-sur-la-Lys) and La Gorgue. It is a Huguenot region from which inhabitants departed to settle in the Americas, South Africa, Germany, Holland, England... The Pays de l'Alleu was attached to the county of Flanders and the pays d'Artois. 19th century The commune, established by the French Revolution, absorbed that of Fauquissart between 1790 and 1794.
