Laroque-d'Olmes (La Ròca d'Òlmes in Languedoc Occitan) is a French commune located in the east of the département of Ariège, in the Occitanie region. From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune forms part of the pays d'Olmes, a renowned setting of the Cathar tragedy, combining landscapes of extreme diversity. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Touyre, the ruisseau du Sautel and various other small watercourses.
A little history
From 25 August 1903, the gare de Laroque-d'Olmes stood on the ligne de Moulin-Neuf à Lavelanet. The passenger service was closed on 18 April 1939. There was a temporary reopening of the passenger service from 5 May 1941 to 6 May 1946, as the shortage of road transport had led to the addition of a carriage to the remaining goods train. The goods service was closed on 16 December 1973 at the same time as the line, which has since become a voie verte.
