A little history
Initially, the town was three times larger than Douai, which was at that time a small hamlet. Grégoire de Tours states that Chilpéric Ier buried his brother Sigebert Ier there in his royal garments in 576. He then states that the body of Sigebert Ier was subsequently brought to the abbaye Saint-Médard de Soissons to be buried alongside his father. Charles II le Chauve possessed at Lambres a manor with a mill, which he gave by charter dated 11 July 878 to the abbaye de Marchiennes.
