La Montagne is a commune in France, located in the département of Loire-Atlantique, in the region of Pays de la Loire, created in 1877 by the splitting of the commune of Saint-Jean-de-Boiseau. It forms part of the traditional pays of the pays de Retz. Its inhabitants are called les Montagnards and les Montagnardes.
A little history
The commune forms part of historic Brittany, in the traditional pays of the pays de Retz and in the historic pays of the Pays nantais. The territory of the commune forms part of the parish of Saint-Jean de Bouguenais, which became the commune of Saint-Jean-de-Boiseau in 1789. It is an essentially rural community, but the development of industrial activity from the end of the 18th century and at the beginning of the 19th century, with, in particular, the creation of the arsenal d'Indret in 1777, changed the situation, and the area of La Montagne, very close to Indret, experienced strong demographic growth linked to an influx of workers.
