A little history
The territory of La Chapelle-sur-Erdre was occupied by Celtic peoples before the arrival of the Romans around 50 BC, who settled at the locality known as the "champ de l'Alouette". Remains of a Roman road linking the Roman camp of l'Alouette to Nantes can still be observed on the commune's land. Around the 12th century, the current site of the château de l'Hopitau housed a leper colony founded by the Knights Hospitaller of Saint-Jean-de-Jérusalem.
