La Chapelle-d'Armentières (in Dutch, Armentiers-Kapelle) is a French commune situated in the département of Nord and the région of Hauts-de-France. It forms part of the Métropole européenne de Lille.
A little history
Until the French Revolution, the territory currently occupied by the commune formed part of Armentières. However, its inhabitants would usually gather in the chapelle Notre-Dame du Vieil Biez, on a territory situated outside Armentières, dependent on the seigneuries of Saint-Simon and Raisse. As early as 1685, its administrators were granted the status of independent échevins by the comte d'Egmont, foreshadowing future autonomy. At the end of the 17th century and the beginning of the 18th century, Gilbert de Lannoy, écuyer, was seigneur of Coutembus, a fief situated in La Chapelle-d'Armentières.
