Kerlouan [kɛʁluɑ̃] (in Breton, Kerlouan) is a commune in the département of Finistère, in the région of Bretagne, in France.
A little history
A small seaside encampment inhabited during the Aurignacian period was discovered at Beg-ar-C'hastel, where abundant material was found. A site that was probably inhabited earlier, from the Châtelperronian period, is located on the islet of Enez-Amon-ar-Ross (Enez-Amann-ar-Rous). The settlement at Beg-ar-C'Hastel in Kerlouan was situated in the shelter of chaotic granite boulder formations along the edge of the present-day coastline. It is thought to have served as a shelter for a hunter population. It is dated to the beginning of the upper Weichselian. Nucleiform scrapers and, above all, burins were found there, of the dihedral type and especially fine Dufour bladelets characteristic of the Aurignacian period and dating from around 23,000 years BC.
