Isbergues covers 14.4 km², lies between 16 and 44 m above sea level and had 8,650 inhabitants in the 2023 census.
Isbergues is a French commune situated in the département of Pas-de-Calais in the region of Hauts-de-France. Its inhabitants are called the Isberguois. The commune is a member of the communauté d'agglomération de Béthune-Bruay, Artois-Lys Romane.
A little history
The commune has been marked by the legend of sainte Isbergue, daughter of Pépin le Bref and sister of Charlemagne, whose virtue was the healing of skin and eye diseases. Isbergues experienced strong industrial development from the 19th century onwards owing to its proximity to the mining basin of Nord-Pas-de-Calais. In order to increase their resources, the mayor of Berguette, Jacques Napieraj, proposed the merger of Molinghem, Berguette and Isbergues, which took place on 1st January 1996. The resulting entity kept the name Isbergues.
