Houplines, the town
Houplines covers 11.3 km², lies between 12 and 20 m above sea level and had 7,921 inhabitants in the 2023 census.

A little history
Houplines formerly formed part of Flanders and the diocese of Tournai. Radbod, bishop of Tournay and Noyon (1095), granted the altar of Houplines to the abbey of Saint Basle near Reims. This signified, in the Middle Ages, the right of patronage, namely the possibility of presenting to the bishop, for ordination, the minister of a church. The abbey was not only lord, but also primitive curé of the church and patron collator of the parish of the village.
