Houdain is a French commune situated in the département of Pas-de-Calais in the Hauts-de-France region. Its inhabitants are known as the Houdinois. The commune is a member of the communauté d'agglomération de Béthune-Bruay, Artois-Lys Romane.
A little history
Houdain has very ancient origins. At the outset it was a Celtic village situated on the axis linking the capital of the Atrébates to that of the Morins (Arras to Thérouanne). In 2014, archaeological excavations uncovered a Gaulish funerary area. On 14 April 1127, Anselme de Houdain, present in Saint-Omer when the Count of Flanders Guillaume Cliton confirmed the laws and customs of the town, swore to observe them.
