A little history
In 1526, Charles-Quint, following the defeat of Pavie, forced François Ier to renounce his suzerainty over Flandre and Artois. At the beginning of the 17th century, in 1608, the seigneurie of Harnes was held by Marcus Stappens, husband of Anne de Zinneghem. It would remain within this family, which also held several fiefs in the châtellenie de Bourbourg, passing from father to son through Jean Stappens, husband of Marie van Alloeu, son of the aforementioned, in 1660, then François Adrien Stappens, son of Jean, in 1669. François Adrien de Stappens married Anne Barbe Van de Woestyne.
