A little history
For the state of the commune in the 18th century, see the work of Jacques Baurein. At the Revolution, the parish of Saint-Maurice (or Saint-Exupère) of Gujan formed the commune of Gujan. In 1803, the other municipalities of the département had to send to the prefecture a study on the topography, agriculture and industry of their commune, as well as on the state of the inhabitants. At that time, this study grouped together two districts, Gujan and Mestras, under the name of the commune of Gujan.
