A little history
The commune's name in Breton is Gouenoù. Initially called Langoueznou and forming part of the primitive parish of Armorique de Guipavas, forming part of the évêché de Léon, the name of this commune is said to derive from saint Goueznou, an anchorite originally from the island of Bretagne (present-day Great Britain), who lived in the 7th century and who, after landing at the age of 18 on the coast of Léon, possibly at Landéda, in the company of his father, Tudon, his brother Majan and his sister Tudona (or Tugdone). He is said to have established a monastery in a place called Land (Lantel) in 642.
