Gennes-Val-de-Loire has been, since 1 January 2018, a new French commune situated in the département of Maine-et-Loire, in the région of Pays de la Loire. It was formed from the merger of the former communes of Gennes-Val de Loire, Les Rosiers-sur-Loire and Saint-Martin-de-la-Place.
A little history
The new commune of Gennes-Val-de-Loire was created by the merger on 1 January 2018 of Gennes-Val de Loire, Les Rosiers-sur-Loire and Saint-Martin-de-la-Place. The first new commune, named Gennes-Val de Loire, was created on 1 January 2016 from the merger of five of the ten communes of the communauté de communes du Gennois, namely Chênehutte-Trèves-Cunault, Gennes, Grézillé, Saint-Georges-des-Sept-Voies and Le Thoureil, made official by prefectoral order on 5 October 2015. Unlike the previous merger, whose chef-lieu was set at Gennes, the new commune of Gennes-Val-de-Loire has its chef-lieu at Les Rosiers-sur-Loire.
